Gujarat: Former Gujarat Minister Kantibhai Gamit has been elected Chairman of the Surat-Tapi District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. (Sumul Dairy), marking a change in leadership at one of Gujarat’s prominent district-level dairy cooperatives.
The election followed the formation of a new Board of Directors. Bharatsinh Solanki (Dabha) of Palsana taluka in Surat district was elected Vice Chairman.
New leadership at Sumul Dairy
The appointment of Gamit as Chairman and Solanki as Vice Chairman comes as Sumul Dairy continues to operate an extensive cooperative network across Surat and Tapi districts, linking milk producers with village-level dairy cooperative societies and the union.

The new leadership is expected to engage with issues related to milk procurement, cooperative development, dairy operations and the economic interests of milk producers.
Focus on farmers and dairy development
For Sumul Dairy, milk procurement and the strengthening of village dairy cooperative societies remain central to the cooperative model. The new Board is likely to face priorities related to maintaining milk supply, improving productivity and supporting member farmers amid changing input costs and market conditions.
Greater adoption of modern dairy technologies, efficient milk collection and processing systems, value-added dairy products and sustainable dairy practices could also form part of the cooperative’s broader development agenda.
Stakeholder interest in new Board
The leadership change has drawn attention among milk producers, cooperative societies and other dairy-sector stakeholders in Surat and Tapi districts.
