Goa Dairy cites higher farmer procurement rates and existing government support; Nandini’s revised prices take effect from November 1.
PONDA, GOA: Goa Dairy has ruled out an immediate increase in retail milk prices despite Karnataka’s decision to raise Nandini milk prices by ₹8 per litre from November 1.

Chairperson of Goa Dairy’s Committee of Administrators (CoA), Parag Nagarsekar, said the cooperative currently pays relatively higher procurement prices to local dairy farmers, making an immediate retail price revision unnecessary.
He noted that Goa’s raw milk procurement rates are among the highest in the country.
Goa Dairy maintains higher procurement support for farmers
Since April 2026, Goa Dairy has reportedly been paying cow milk producers ₹56 per litre for milk containing 4.0% fat and 8.5% SNF.
The payment comprises a base procurement price of ₹40 per litre and a 40% support payment of ₹16.
For buffalo milk containing 6.0% fat and 9.0% SNF, farmers receive ₹78.40 per litre, comprising a base price of ₹56 and a 40% support payment of ₹22.40.
According to Nagarsekar, this procurement structure provides substantial support to local dairy farmers and allows Goa Dairy to maintain its existing consumer prices for now.
Goa Dairy offers four milk variants
Goa Dairy currently markets four principal liquid milk variants:
| Product | Packet colour | Fat | SNF |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full Cream Milk | Orange | 6.0% | 9.0% |
| Shakti Standardised Milk | Green | 4.5% | 8.5% |
| Cow Milk | Red | 3.2% | 8.3% |
| Cold Gold Toned Milk | Blue | 3.0% | 8.5% |
The cooperative has decided to maintain existing retail prices despite the price adjustment announced by Karnataka’s cooperative dairy federation.
Karnataka increases Nandini milk prices
The Karnataka government has approved an ₹8 per litre increase in the base price of Nandini milk, marketed by the Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (KMF), effective November 1.

Under the revised arrangement, ₹7 of the additional ₹8 per litre will go to dairy farmers, while the remaining ₹1 will be allocated to milk unions to meet operational expenses.
The revised retail prices of selected Nandini milk variants are:
| Nandini milk variant | Earlier price/litre | Revised price/litre |
|---|---|---|
| Toned Milk | ₹46 | ₹54 |
| Homogenised Toned Milk | ₹47 | ₹55 |
| Homogenised Cow’s Milk | ₹50 | ₹58 |
| Shubham (4.5% fat) | ₹52 | ₹60 |
| Samruddhi | ₹55 | ₹63 |
KMF has cited rising cattle feed and fodder costs, along with other production expenses, as reasons for the revision.
Nandini has a presence in Goa’s milk market
Nandini, the Karnataka cooperative brand, reportedly sells approximately 25,000 litres of milk daily in Goa.
The difference in pricing decisions by the two cooperatives highlights how procurement costs, government support mechanisms and local operating conditions can influence retail milk prices.
While Karnataka has opted for a consumer price revision to improve returns across its dairy cooperative network, Goa Dairy has indicated that its existing farmer support structure allows it to maintain current retail rates.
The contrasting approaches underline the role of regional procurement policies and cooperative economics in determining milk prices across Indian states.
