A big fraud has been uncovered involving fake ghee supplied to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which manages the famous Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh.
The Bhole Baba Organic Dairy, based in Uttarakhand, claimed to produce pure desi ghee but never actually bought or used any milk or butter. Still, between 2019 and 2024, it managed to supply around 6.8 million kilograms of ghee to TTD — worth about ₹250 crore.
A CBI-led Special Investigation Team (SIT) found that the dairy owners, Pomil Jain and Vipin Jain, had set up a fake factory and made ghee using chemicals instead of real milk fat. They even faked documents to show milk purchases.
Even after being blacklisted in 2022, the company continued to sell fake ghee by using names of other dairies — like Vyshnavi Dairy (Tirupati), Mal Ganga (U.P.), and AR Dairy Foods (Tamil Nadu).
In July 2023, four tankers of ghee from AR Dairy were found adulterated with animal fat and rejected by TTD. But instead of being destroyed, the tankers were secretly rebranded and sent to Vyshnavi Dairy, reprocessed, and sold again to the temple as “new” ghee. That same ghee was later used to make the famous Tirupati laddus.

In September 2024, controversy erupted after Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu claimed that adulterated ingredients — possibly beef tallow, fish oil, and pig fat — had been used in the sacred laddus.
Tests by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) confirmed the presence of foreign fats, though officials said the bad ghee was removed before being used in new batches.
