A Dairy Revolution: FAME’s Intervention Lifts Livelihoods of 2 Lakh Rural Farmers Across Five States

The Foundation for Advancement of Micro Enterprises (FAME), a leading Section 8 non-profit organisation, has significantly strengthened the livelihoods of more than 2 lakh dairy farmers across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jharkhand through its integrated Dairy Development Program. By addressing chronic challenges—poor livestock health, limited veterinary care, fluctuating milk prices, and outdated farm practices—FAME is helping build a sustainable, technology-driven, and profitable dairy ecosystem in rural India.

A Dairy Revolution: FAME’s Intervention Lifts Livelihoods of 2 Lakh Rural Farmers Across Five States

Operating across 300+ villages, the program focuses on underserved communities where income insecurity, low productivity, and weak market access have historically limited rural progress. FAME’s interventions prioritise skill development, scientific dairy practices, and last-mile service delivery to enhance both productivity and rural resilience.

“Our mission is to create a self-sustaining dairy ecosystem by integrating veterinary science, market linkages, and technology,” said Mr. Brij Mohan, Chairman, FAME.
“These interventions have improved cattle health, increased daily milk yields, and ensured fairer prices for farmers—especially supporting women and marginalised groups. We aim to scale this transformation to more regions across India.”

FAME’s Five-Pillar Dairy Development Model

  1. Expert Advisory & Breed Improvement
Certified veterinarians provide scientific guidance on nutrition, health, and breeding. Targeted genetic improvement programs, especially artificial insemination in UP and Punjab, enhance herd productivity.
  2. Free Doorstep Veterinary Services
Timely vaccination, deworming, and illness management reduce mortality and improve milk output.
  3. Milk Collection Centres (MCCs)
Partnered with leading dairy companies, these centres eliminate middlemen and ensure transparent, quality-based milk pricing, boosting farmer incomes.
  4. FAME Service Centres
Farmers gain access to high-quality feed, mineral mixtures, fodder seeds, and dairy inputs at wholesale prices, reducing operational costs.
  5. Capacity Building & Digital Integration
Regular training programs, a repeat–reinforce–renew learning system, and the proprietary FAME Dairy App help farmers track animal health, productivity, and service records in real time.

Impact Assessment: Strong and Measurable Outcomes

Independent evaluations show:

  • 89% farmers reported a reduction in cattle disease
  • 63% received better milk prices
  • 74% experienced overall income growth
  • Strong improvements in women’s financial independence and community leadership

A farmer from Meerut, Vakil, shared his experience:
“My buffalo’s milk yield increased from 8 to 10 litres after FAME’s training and veterinary care. Selling milk at ₹60 per litre now earns me ₹10,000–12,000 more every month. This helps support my children’s education and improve our cattle shed. I am financially more secure and no longer depend on emergency loans.”
