Hyderabad: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Telangana on October 4, where he will launch key dairy-sector projects, including the inauguration of Amul’s first modern dairy plant in the state and the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the Sabar Dairy Project in Medak district.

According to Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, the projects are expected to strengthen dairy processing infrastructure and support the expansion of the cooperative dairy sector in Telangana.
Plant to Process 5 Lakh Litres of Milk Daily
The new Amul facility will have an initial milk-handling capacity of 5 lakh litres per day and will manufacture a wide range of value-added dairy and food products.

According to the project details, the plant will have the capacity to produce:
- 200 tonnes of curd per day
- 30 kilolitres each of masala buttermilk and probiotic buttermilk per day
- 30 kilolitres of lassi per day
- 10 tonnes of paneer per day
- 50 kilolitres of ice cream per day
- 3 tonnes of fresh sweets per day
- 5 tonnes of bakery products per day
- 5 tonnes of ghee per day
The facility has been designed with scope for future capacity expansion, allowing production to scale in response to market demand.
Focus on Value-Added Dairy Products
Kishan Reddy described the project as a significant development for Telangana’s dairy sector, saying it would strengthen milk processing, expand value addition and create additional opportunities for dairy farmers.
The broad product portfolio—from curd, buttermilk and lassi to paneer, ice cream, ghee, sweets and bakery products—will enable a larger share of procured milk to be channelled into value-added products rather than only liquid milk.
Linked to White Revolution 2.0
Kishan Reddy linked the project to White Revolution 2.0, the Union Cooperation Ministry’s programme aimed at expanding dairy cooperatives and improving farmers’ access to organised milk markets.
The programme targets a 50% increase in milk procurement by 2028–29 and includes plans for 75,000 new cooperative societies across India, including 1,525 in Telangana, according to the minister.
Reddy also highlighted the role of the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) in supporting Telangana’s cooperative and agricultural sectors. He said NCDC had approved around ₹1.16 lakh crore for Telangana over the past 12 years, including nearly ₹60,000 crore for paddy procurement.
He further said Telangana has more than 60,000 cooperative societies, arguing that strengthening the cooperative network could improve farmers’ returns and contribute to higher agricultural incomes.
He said NCDC released ₹37,000 crore for paddy procurement during the Kharif and Rabi seasons of 2025–26, while ₹22,700 crore was sanctioned for the Rabi season of 2026–27. Reddy also said NCDC has sanctioned around ₹60,000 crore for paddy procurement in Telangana.
These figures and assessments were presented by Reddy while highlighting the role of cooperative institutions in supporting farmers.
Amul Plant to Mark Expansion of Dairy Processing
During his visit, Shah will inaugurate a modern dairy plant established by Amul in Telangana. The facility is being positioned as part of the expansion of organised dairy processing and cooperative-sector infrastructure in the state.
The visit will also include the laying of the foundation stone for the Sabar Dairy Project in Medak district, adding another proposed investment to Telangana’s dairy-processing landscape.
The projects are expected to contribute to greater milk processing capacity and provide additional infrastructure for value-added dairy production.

Focus on Cooperative Development
Reddy also referred to the recently passed National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, saying it expands the scope of funding to entities operating in the cooperative sector rather than limiting assistance to registered cooperatives.
He said Telangana has around 50,000 active cooperative societies with approximately one crore members, and argued that strengthening cooperative institutions could contribute to higher farmer incomes.
Shah’s Visit to Include Other Events
Apart from the dairy-sector programmes, Shah is scheduled to attend the silver jubilee celebrations of Prathima Institute of Medical Sciences in Karimnagar. He will also lay the foundation stone for the proposed Prathima Deemed University building and address students.
Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar inspected arrangements at the medical institute on October 1 ahead of Shah’s visit.
The October 4 programme therefore combines the launch of dairy infrastructure with events related to education and institutional development in Telangana.
