Having reported a profit of Rs 13.26 crore for the last financial year, BEMUL has decided to earmark Rs 10 crore from this profit exclusively for farmer welfare schemes, announced BEMUL President and Arabhavi MLA Bhalachandra Jarkiholi.

Speaking to media persons at the District Milk Federation’s auditorium during a function to distribute equipment worth Rs 6 crore to dairy farmers, Jarkiholi emphasised BEMUL’s commitment to strengthening the dairy sector.

“We are utilising ₹10 crore of our profit to directly benefit our farmers,” he said.

As part of the welfare initiative, various subsidised equipment and resources are being distributed across all 15 taluka centres in the district at a 60% subsidy.

He revealed that BEMUL is planning to expand its supply network further into Goa and neighbouring regions of Karnataka.

Under this initiative, Rs 2.46 crore has been spent to procure 10,000 rubber mats, distributed to 3,100 beneficiaries. Another Rs 86.10 lakh has been used to supply 2 HP electric fodder-cutting machines to 350 farmers, while 50 farmers received electric milking machines valued at Rs 13.95 lakh.

In addition, Rs 2 crore is being disbursed as grants of Rs 5 lakh each to 40 dairy cooperative societies that have their own infrastructure.

A 100% subsidised allocation of Rs 1.72 crore has gone towards the purchase of 15 Bulk Milk Cooler (BMC) units.

Currently, cow milk is priced at Rs 38 per litre and buffalo milk at Rs 52 per litre, with the latter witnessing higher demand among consumers.
