Britannia Industries is set to expand its dairy portfolio by launching ready-to-drink (RTD) protein beverages, according to Executive Vice Chairman and MD Varun Berry during the company’s Q2 FY26 earnings call.
Berry said Britannia aims to tap into the growing protein drink segment, but clarified that the company will not venture into whey powders, as it currently lacks the capability to produce the high-grade whey used in bodybuilding supplements.
Q2 FY26 Performance Highlights
- Net Profit: ₹689.95 crore (up 34% YoY)
- Revenue: ₹4,664.51 crore (up 3.6% YoY)
- Growth driven by stable input costs and strong cost management.
Berry noted that Britannia has achieved its desired profitability and will now shift focus to volume-led growth by:
- Investing heavily in core brands and marketing,
- Becoming more price-competitive, even if it slightly reduces margins,
- Expanding rural distribution through a direct model rather than the old hub-and-spoke approach.
GST Rate Change & Market Outlook
Berry said the recent GST revisions (effective Sept 22, 2025), which covered about 85% of Britannia’s portfolio, will strengthen the position of organised players and bring greater transparency to the food sector.
