The newly elected president of Bangalore Milk Union Ltd. (BAMUL), D.K. Suresh, on Sunday told farmers that he had directed officials of cooperative banks to provide ₹2 lakh loan to them at 3% interest rate to buy two cows.

Addressing a programme organised in Magadi to felicitate him, Mr. Suresh said such a measure was being taken to encourage farmers to take to dairying. Pointing out that BAMUL was procuring milk to the tune of 15 lakh litres a day as against its capacity to handle 25 lakh litres, he said he had directed the authorities concerned to ensure that milk production reaches the full potential of the union in about a year.
