Farmers Should Learn Dairy Technologies to Boost Value

Coimbatore, Dec. — Emphasizing the need for technological modernization in the dairy sector, Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Milk and Dairy Development, Mano Thangaraj, urged farmers to adopt the latest innovations to enhance productivity and value addition. He was speaking at the inauguration of five major expos organised by Media Day Marketing at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex, where leading manufacturers, suppliers, and startups showcased cutting-edge technologies in dairy, food processing, tea, coffee, plastics, and waste management.

Farmers Should Learn Dairy Technologies to Boost Value

The Minister highlighted the rapidly evolving landscape of dairy machinery and processing solutions, noting that farmer awareness remains a major bottleneck. “There are several new technologies available today. Farmers should understand these trends, adopt modern machines, and explore value-added products,” he said.

Government Support for Technological Upgradation

Thangaraj outlined several initiatives by the Tamil Nadu government to strengthen the dairy ecosystem:

  • ₹1,280 crore in loans disbursed last year to support the establishment of mini dairies.
  • Continuation of milk incentives to support farmer incomes.
  • Aavin actively promoting technology adoption, and providing training for both farmers and officials.
  • Development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to enhance efficiency and streamline operations across Aavin’s processing plants.

He stressed that technological literacy and leadership among officials are crucial for improving supply-chain performance and modernizing the cooperative dairy structure.

Focus on Social Priorities

Responding to media queries, the Minister added that contemporary debates should focus on removing poverty and hunger in Tamil Nadu. Referring to poet Subramania Bharathi, he remarked that the poet’s ideals were rooted in national progress and social justice—“not in praising any political party.”
