Barnala, Punjab | December 23, 2025: Amandeep Kaur, 27, a Business Administration graduate from Jodhpur village in Punjab’s Barnala district, is rewriting the rural entrepreneurship narrative by transforming a two-cow household setup into a 35-cattle commercial dairy farm within just three years.

Producing nearly two quintals (200 litres) of milk daily, Amandeep now stands among the most active and self-driven dairy entrepreneurs in the region, managing a mixed herd of high-yielding cows and buffaloes entirely on her own.
Breaking Stereotypes, Building Scale
Born as the youngest of three sisters in a modest farming family, Amandeep took charge of supporting her parents following the tragic loss of her brother.
“I took the onus to make life better for my parents,” she stated, reflecting on the turning point that led her into dairy entrepreneurship.
Her farm now includes cows yielding up to 40–45 litres/day, with the top-performing animal producing 40–45 litres—a benchmark output rarely seen in smallholder dairy units.

Administration and Industry Applaud
Deputy Commissioner of Barnala, T. Benith, publicly acknowledged her achievement:
“Amandeep has become an example for not only women but men too. She broke gender stereotypes and has set a model that male dairy farmers can also learn from.”
Adding to this, Surinder Singh, Deputy Director, Dairy Development, Barnala, confirmed that institutional support played a catalytic role in her expansion:
- Loan sanctioned within 7 days
- Shed constructed using subsidy + credit blend
- Technical guidance on optimal shed design, breeding, and feeding
Knowledge Turned Into Profit
Amandeep credits her rapid growth to structured dairy training undertaken at the Barnala Dairy Development Department, where she learned:
- The science behind consistent feeding schedules
- The role of genetic improvement and planned breeding
- The importance of shed orientation, ventilation, and layout
- Balancing nutrition with productivity economics
From Leaking Roof to Financial Independence
Her entrepreneurial success has uplifted her family’s living conditions—replacing a leaking-roof house with a new concrete home, financed through dairy income.
She now serves as the primary breadwinner, urging youth to see dairying as a serious enterprise, not a side hustle.
The Big Signal
Amandeep’s journey underscores a larger trend:
- Dairy as an engine for rural self-employment
- Women emerging as scalable agri-entrepreneurs
- Cooperative and government credit-subsidy models accelerating growth
- Institutional mentoring improving yield and market confidence
Her farm is no longer just about milk—it’s about agency, economics, and a revolution led from the grassroots.
