New Delhi, June 12, 2026:
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a nationwide advisory directing all Food Business Operators (FBOs) to immediately stop using metallic pins, staple pins, wires, and similar materials in food products and packaging.

According to the advisory issued by FSSAI’s Regulatory Compliance Division, the food regulator has received reports of metallic pins being used in decorative cakes and for fastening food packets, cake boxes, sweet boxes, snack pouches, takeaway parcels, and other food packages. In several cases, pins were reportedly found embedded in food products or attached to packaging, posing a serious risk to consumer safety.
FSSAI stated that accidental ingestion of such metallic objects could lead to injuries and adverse health consequences. Citing public health concerns, the authority has directed all food businesses to discontinue the practice with immediate effect.
The advisory warns that any Food Business Operator found violating the directive may face penal action under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and related regulations.
