One such success story is that of Ram Lakhan, a resident of Deoria village in Lakhimpur Kheri district, who has established a thriving dairy enterprise with assistance under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).
His journey reflects the growing impact of entrepreneurship-focused schemes aimed at promoting self-reliance, generating employment, and strengthening rural economies across the state.
From Aspiration to Enterprise
Like many young people in rural India, Ram Lakhan aspired to improve his family’s financial condition through self-employment. However, limited financial resources stood in the way of realizing his entrepreneurial ambitions.
His breakthrough came after learning about PMEGP through the District Industries Centre. The scheme, designed to support self-employment ventures through financial assistance, enabled him to secure a loan of ₹10 lakh in 2024. The funding provided the foundation for launching a dairy business and creating a stable source of income.
Building a Successful Dairy Business
With financial support under the scheme, Ram Lakhan gradually expanded his dairy operations into a profitable enterprise. Today, his dairy unit produces between five and eight quintals of milk daily, catering to demand in the local market.

The business has become the primary source of income for his family, bringing greater financial stability and improving their standard of living.
Generating Employment at the Grassroots
Beyond supporting his own family, Ram Lakhan’s dairy venture has also contributed to local employment generation. The enterprise currently provides work opportunities to three additional individuals from the village.
Officials say such examples demonstrate the broader objective of entrepreneurship schemes, which not only empower individual beneficiaries but also create economic opportunities within local communities.
Promoting Self-Reliance Through Government Support
The Uttar Pradesh Government has placed significant emphasis on self-employment and entrepreneurship as key drivers of economic empowerment and rural development.

According to Ram Lakhan, the dairy business now generates a monthly net income ranging between ₹15,000 and ₹30,000 after operational expenses. The steady earnings have strengthened his family’s financial position and provided a pathway toward long-term economic security.
His experience highlights how targeted financial assistance and entrepreneurship support can enable rural youth to establish successful enterprises while contributing to local economic growth.
