GADVASU Launches Innovative Ready-to-Eat Functional Foods

Developed using egg, milk, and nutrient-rich millets, the products are designed as complete food solutions catering to diverse consumer groups, including children, fitness enthusiasts, working professionals, and the elderly.

Nutrition Meets Innovation

According to Nitin Mehta, Head of the Department of Livestock Products Technology, the formulations provide a balanced combination of protein, energy, and essential minerals.

  • G-E-M Balls (Ghee–Egg–Millet):
    • Protein: 21–23%
    • Fat: 18–20%
    • Minerals: 2.5–3.25%
  • Core-3 Energy Delight:
    • Protein: 20–22%
    • Fat: 16–18%
    • Minerals: 2–3%

Both products offer an energy value of 380–425 kcal per 100 g, making them nutrient-dense and suitable as healthy snacks or meal supplements.

Potential for Wider Use

The products were recently showcased at the Pashu Palan Mela, where they received positive feedback during tasting sessions. Researchers are now working on shelf-life standardisation to ensure commercial viability.

Once finalized, the products will be made available through university outlets, with plans for technology transfer to promote large-scale production.

Boost to Farmers and Sustainable Diets

Officials noted that incorporating millets aligns with India’s push toward nutri-cereals and sustainable agriculture. The initiative is expected to:

  • Support livestock and millet farmers
  • Promote nutrient-rich diets
  • Encourage value addition in animal-based foods

“These products are not just about nutrition; they also aim to strengthen sustainable food systems and farmer livelihoods,” Mehta added.
