Shimla Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced an increase in the state’s milk support price from December 1 and raised the procurement price for apples under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) by ₹1 per kg, as the government seeks to strengthen farm and livestock incomes.

Addressing a public meeting at Chirgaon in the Rohru Assembly constituency, Sukhu said the government was focusing on improving the earnings of farmers, apple growers and livestock rearers as part of its rural-economy strategy.
Apple MIS price raised to ₹14 per kg
Under the revised arrangement, apples procured through the MIS will be purchased at ₹14 per kg, up from ₹13 per kg. The increase comes as the state continues to use the intervention scheme to support growers, particularly during periods of market pressure.
Sukhu also highlighted the state’s universal carton system for apple marketing and support measures for naturally grown agricultural produce.
The state has been expanding digital systems for MIS procurement. More than 8,000 tonnes of apples had been procured under the scheme by late September 2026, with over 17,000 farmers registered on the HPMIS portal.
Higher support for livestock farmers
Sukhu said the government would increase the support price for milk from December 1, building on earlier measures aimed at improving returns to livestock farmers.

Himachal Pradesh has progressively raised its milk procurement rates in recent years. In 2025, the state increased the support price to ₹51 per litre for cow milk and ₹61 per litre for buffalo milk.
The state government has also been investing in milk-processing and chilling infrastructure. A 50,000-litre-per-day processing facility inaugurated at Duttnagar in 2024 increased the site’s overall processing capacity to 70,000 litres per day.
Education initiatives highlighted
The Chief Minister also outlined measures in the education sector, claiming that Himachal Pradesh’s position in education quality had improved from 21st to fifth nationally.
He said English-medium education had been introduced from Class I in government schools and that more than 150 government schools had been opened with CBSE affiliation. According to Sukhu, enrolment at one school in Rohru increased by more than 500 students within a year of adopting the CBSE curriculum.
He also said around 1,500 teachers had been appointed and that the government was developing 300 Schools of Excellence to expand access to quality education in rural areas.
Sukhu attacks previous BJP government
Sukhu criticised the previous BJP government, alleging that state resources had been used to benefit industrialists rather than ordinary residents. He said his government was seeking to curb corruption and ensure that public resources were used for the wider population.
Responding to questions concerning the Chief Minister’s Office, Sukhu said the office belonged to the people and served as a mechanism for addressing public grievances.
He also alleged that the previous BJP government had constructed offices costing more than ₹1,000 crore.
The political allegations were made by the Chief Minister at the public meeting and represent his assessment of the previous administration.
