How Does Vita Ensure Quality and Farmer Welfare

GURGAON: Human Rights Commission member Deep Bhatia visited the Vita Milk Plant at Ballabhgarh in Faridabad on Friday to review its ongoing activities and emphasise the need for greater brand promotion and consumer awareness campaigns. Bhatia said Vita not only promotes animal husbandry at the rural level but also enhances farmers’ income and ensures that urban consumers have access to high-quality milk and dairy products close to home.

During the inspection, Chief Executive Officer Satish Kumar informed that the Ballabhgarh Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd. was established in April 2003, while the milk plant was set up in 1979 by Haryana Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Ltd., Chandigarh. The Union’s objectives include ensuring fair pricing for milk supplied by producers, providing quality cattle feed, and supplying high-grade fodder seeds, thereby strengthening the economic condition of farmers.

Currently, the Ballabhgarh Milk Plant procures over one lakh litres of milk per day and operates around 160 milk booths to ensure timely supply to consumers. In addition to Vita brand products such as ghee, paneer, curd, lassi, khoa, butter, and diet peanut, the plant also supplies 50,000 litres of milk daily to the Delhi Milk Scheme.

The Ballabhgarh Milk Plant holds IS 9005 and IS 22000 certifications, along with the Quality Mark of the National Dairy Development Board, confirming the superior quality of its milk and dairy products.

On the occasion, the Commission’s Protocol, Information and Public Relations Officer Dr Puneet Arora highlighted that plant officials are concerned about the prevailing misconception in society that milk is prepared from powder, whereas, in reality, milk is collected solely through milk producer cooperative societies and then processed at the plant. He added that Vita should undertake more intensive awareness drives to dispel this myth.
