In a major boost to India’s global dairy leadership, the country will host the IDF World Dairy Summit (WDS) 2027 in Mumbai. The agreement was formally exchanged between Dr. Meenesh Shah, Chairman of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), and Laurence Rycken, Director General of the International Dairy Federation (IDF).
The announcement was made during the 52nd Dairy Industry Conference of the Indian Dairy Association in New Delhi. The event was attended by Union Minister of Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan and Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying SP Singh Baghel.
Summit Details
The summit will be held from November 16 to 19, 2027, at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai.

This marks India’s quick return as host after successfully organising the 2022 edition in Delhi-NCR, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Global Platform for Dairy Leadership
The 2027 summit is expected to draw over 1,500 international delegates, including policymakers, dairy cooperatives, scientists, farmers, and technology providers. Key components of the event will include:
- IDF Board and General Assembly meetings
- Technical committee sessions on policy, innovation, sustainability and trade
- Strategic discussions on global dairy growth
India secured hosting rights following a decisive vote at the IDF’s 118th General Assembly in Paris in 2024.
Strategic Significance for India
As the world’s largest milk producer, contributing roughly a quarter of global milk output, India’s role within IDF remains influential. Hosting the summit again reinforces the country’s position as:
- A global dairy production leader
- A cooperative dairy model example
- A growing hub for dairy innovation and sustainability
The 2027 summit is expected to shape policy direction, sustainability goals, and innovation pathways for the international dairy sector over the next decade.
