New Delhi: The Indian Ice Cream Manufacturers Association (IICMA) marked Ice Cream Day on March 27, inviting people across India to celebrate the country’s enduring love for ice cream—now considered more than just a seasonal treat.
The association highlighted how ice cream has evolved into a year-round cultural and culinary staple, enjoyed across all age groups and regions.
A Celebration of Taste and Tradition
“From street vendors to premium parlours, ice cream unites people in sweetness,” IICMA said in a statement, encouraging families to step out and enjoy their favourite flavours while supporting local businesses.
The celebration also reflects India’s rich dessert heritage, tracing back to Mughal-era delicacies like:
- kulfi
- falooda
Today, these traditional treats coexist with innovative flavours such as mango-chilli and fusion desserts, showcasing the sector’s creativity.

IICMA emphasised that the ice cream industry plays a crucial role in:
- Supporting dairy farmers and rural livelihoods
- Generating employment across the value chain
- Driving innovation in food processing
The sector depends heavily on milk production, linking it directly to India’s vast dairy economy.
