Kerala Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister J. Chinjurani met Union Minister of State for Dairy Development and Fisheries George Kurien at Krishi Bhavan on Thursday, seeking urgent central assistance for the state’s livestock sector.

Chinjurani submitted a memorandum requesting ₹6.63 crore as compensation for farmers who lost poultry, ducks, and pigs to bird flu and African swine fever since 2002.
She also urged the Centre to upgrade Kerala’s animal disease diagnostic laboratories, including the State Institute of Animal Diseases, Palode, and enhance the unit cost for check posts to strengthen immunization measures.

Further, the minister sought central support for cattle insurance under the National Livestock Mission and adequate allocation for goat and pig development projects in 2025-26.
Chinjurani told reporters that the Union Minister responded positively and assured necessary steps to address Kerala’s demands.
