Kenitra: Moroccan agricultural cooperative Extralait has inaugurated a $10.8 million pasteurised milk plant in Kenitra, marking a significant step toward expanding its market presence and strengthening the country’s dairy value chain.

The new facility includes:
- A pasteurised milk production unit
- Modernised yogurt and butter processing lines
The project is expected to generate 139 direct jobs, contributing to local employment and rural economic development.
Strengthening Dairy Supply Chain
The plant has been developed under the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s programme to boost food processing industries and enhance national food security.
Speaking at the inauguration, Industry and Trade Minister Ryad Mazzour highlighted the strength of the cooperative model, calling it a system built on unity, resilience, and farmer participation.
Extralait’s network reflects this approach:
- Nearly 12,000 small-scale dairy farmers
- Spread across 44 cooperatives
- Supported by 57 milk collection centres
Modernisation and Diversification Strategy
According to Youssef Lakbida, the investment aims to:
- Increase production capacity
- Modernise processing infrastructure
- Diversify dairy product offerings
This aligns with Morocco’s broader push to upgrade its agri-processing sector and improve competitiveness.
