Bhubaneswar, May 3, 2026 — In a move that will impact household budgets across the state, the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) has announced a ₹4 per litre increase in milk prices, effective immediately from today.
The federation attributed the price hike to the escalating costs associated with processing and transportation. State Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister, Gokulananda Mallik, noted that the revision was necessary as retail prices had remained stagnant for a significant period despite rising input expenses.
Revised Price Structure
The price adjustment affects all major milk variants. Consumers will now pay the following rates:
| Milk Variant | Old Price (per L) | New Price (per L) |
| Toned Milk | ₹50 | ₹54 |
| Premium Milk | ₹54 | ₹58 |
| Gold Premium | ₹56 | ₹60 |
| Gold Premium Plus | ₹60 | ₹64 |
Note: For those purchasing half-litre (500 ml) pouches, the price of toned milk has risen to ₹27, while premium milk is now ₹29.
Support for Dairy Farmers
While the hike puts additional pressure on the “Aam Aadmi,” the state government emphasized that the decision is designed to benefit the agricultural community. To offset the rising costs of cattle feed and maintenance, OMFED has simultaneously increased procurement rates:
- Cow Milk: Procurement price raised by ₹1 to ₹39.05 per litre.
- Buffalo Milk: Farmers will now receive an additional ₹1.60 per litre.

Minister Mallik reassured the public that despite the increase, OMFED’s rates remain competitive compared to private brands, and there will be no compromise on the quality of the milk supplied to the approximately six lakh households served daily.
