Bhubaneswar ;The Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) has announced a revision in milk prices across Odisha, with the new rates coming into effect from October 4.

OMFED Raises Milk Prices in Odisha From October 4 After Farmer Procurement Rate Hike

The increase covers OMFED’s toned, premium and Gold Plus milk categories and comes weeks after the cooperative raised the price paid to dairy farmers for milk procurement.

Toned milk to rise by ₹4 per litre

Under the revised pricing structure, the retail price of OMFED toned milk will increase from ₹54 to ₹58 per litre, a rise of ₹4.

The price of the 500-ml toned milk packet will consequently increase by ₹2.

For OMFED Premium Milk, the price will rise from ₹58 to ₹60 per litre, while the 500-ml pack will become ₹1 costlier.

The price of Gold Plus Milk will increase from ₹64 to ₹66 per litre. Its 500-ml packet will also see a ₹1 increase.

Milk procurement price raised for farmers

The retail price revision follows OMFED’s decision to increase its milk procurement price by ₹2 per litre from September 11.

The cooperative had attributed the procurement-price increase to rising dairy production costs, particularly higher prices of cattle feed and other essential inputs, as well as increased transportation expenses.

The move was intended to provide additional income support to dairy farmers while helping maintain milk procurement amid higher input costs.

OMFED plans QR-based product verification

Alongside the price revision, OMFED is working on introducing QR codes on its dairy products to help consumers access product information and verify authenticity.

The proposed QR-code system is expected to provide details including the date and place of production, usable period and instructions for use.

The initiative could also strengthen traceability across OMFED’s dairy supply chain by giving consumers easier access to product-level information.

Balancing farmer returns and consumer prices

The latest pricing changes highlight the cost pressures facing Odisha’s dairy sector, with higher input and logistics costs influencing both farmer procurement prices and consumer-facing milk prices.

For OMFED, the challenge will be to balance better returns to dairy farmers, procurement sustainability and affordability for consumers as operating costs remain elevated.
