Dairy Business Success: Sheikh Jaber from Thergaon (Paithan taluka) has abandoned chemical farming and opted for organic farming and dairy business on 15 acres, earning an income of Rs. 2 lakhs per month. This experiment of earning profit at low cost is inspiring.
Pachod: Farmers from Thergaon in Paithan taluka have turned 15 acres of agriculture organic by giving up chemical fertilizers. They have also achieved economic growth through dairy business. Sheikh Jaber from Thergaon has 15 acres of agriculture.
For more income, he had bombarded them with chemical fertilizers. Despite spending a lot of money on chemical fertilizers every year, it was impossible to meet the farming and family expenses. This led to the option of dairy farming. Sheikh Jaber purchased 20 buffaloes of the Murha, Jafrabadi, and Konkani breeds after visiting Padramod and Usanwari.
However, where there is no water for humans to drink, the question of animal fodder arose. To quench the thirst of buffaloes, five years ago, farm ponds were dug and filled with water. The buffaloes’ thirst was quenched with that water. They took care of a healthy diet by preparing green fodder, sugarcane, and kadaba.
180 liters of milk started being produced every day in the morning and evening. Milk was supplied to the hotel in Pachod at Rs. 40 per liter. This started generating an income of two lakh 16 thousand per month. This resulted in a saving of one to one and a half lakh per month, instead of spending three thousand per day on fuel, maintenance, and petrol. From milking to grazing and farming, mother Jamrutbi and father Sheikh Nazir help. They said that due to their contribution in the business, there is no need for a milkman or a servant. A slab shed has been built for the buffaloes and fans and coolers have been arranged to protect them from the heat. They are bathed in cold water twice a day.

It was impossible to even cultivate the fields of Sheikh Jaber. He leveled the land. He spread hundreds of barrels of silt from the percolation pond and cow dung on the land. This made the land fertile. Now, along with pomegranates and citrus fruits, cotton, tur and wheat are grown in it. All this alchemy has been done by the dairy industry.
Dairy farming helped overcome the deteriorating soil texture due to excessive use of fertilizers, unavailability of cow dung, and financial crisis. It helped turn 15 acres of farming into organic. It would not be wrong to call dairy farming a primary occupation instead of a sideline. Farming was not eligible for a motorcycle, but now I have two motorcycles and a car.
