The Russian government has approved a resolution extending the food embargo until the end of 2026. The decision, signed on November 28, 2024, also expands the list of countries subject to sanctions, with New Zealand now included.

Updated List of Sanctioned Countries

The embargo now applies to:

United States, EU, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and Norway
Ukraine, Albania, Montenegro, Iceland, Liechtenstein
New Zealand
List of Prohibited Products

The embargo covers:

Meat, sausages, fish, and seafood
Vegetables, fruits, dairy products, and other food categories
The food embargo was initially introduced in 2014 as a response to anti-Russian sanctions following the annexation of Crimea. At first, it targeted the United States, the European Union, Australia, Norway, and Canada. Over time, the list of sanctioned countries expanded to include others that supported sanctions against Russia.

In 2020, the embargo was extended to include the United Kingdom after its exit from the EU. Now, 10 years after its initial implementation, the government has decided to prolong the embargo until 2026, in accordance with a presidential decree from September 18, 2024.

Exceptions and Enforcement
In 2023, exceptions were made for certain products, such as whey for infant formula.

Products from sanctioned countries are subject to destruction upon entry into Russia. Additional requirements for transit have been introduced, including the use of GLONASS seals and tracking documents.
