Patna: Bihar’s flagship dairy brand Sudha is preparing for a major international push, with the state government planning to expand exports to Gulf and Southeast Asian countries to boost farmer incomes.

Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resources Minister Surendra Mehta said the initiative aims to increase global demand for Sudha products such as curd, sweets, and ghee, ultimately improving milk prices for dairy farmers.
Building on Early Export Success
Sudha, operated by Bihar State Milk Cooperative Federation Limited, has already made its mark internationally:
- Exported 5.7 metric tonnes of ghee to the United States
- Exported 5.0 metric tonnes of gulab jamun to Canada (March 2025)
The first export consignment was flagged off by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, marking Bihar’s entry into global dairy trade.

Focus on Gulf & Southeast Asia
The next phase targets:
- Gulf countries (West Asia)
- Southeast Asia, including Singapore and Malaysia
Sudha has also showcased its products at international platforms like the Gulfood 2025 and 2026 in Dubai, strengthening its global visibility.
Boost to Farmers and Dairy Economy
Officials believe that expanding exports will:
- Increase demand for milk and dairy products
- Ensure better price realization for farmers
- Strengthen Bihar’s cooperative dairy ecosystem
Parallel Push in Fisheries
Alongside dairy, the state is scaling up fisheries:
- Fish production rose to 9.59 lakh metric tonnes in 2024–25
- Up from 8.73 lakh metric tonnes in 2023–24 (9.85% growth)
- Bihar has climbed from 9th to 4th position nationally
New retail outlets branded “Fish Catch” will be launched across urban areas, prioritizing fishermen and women beneficiaries under employment schemes.
Expanding Cooperative Network
The government is also strengthening grassroots infrastructure:
- Dairy cooperative societies to be set up in 24,248 villages (Phase 1)
- Sudha outlets planned in all 8,053 panchayats
Towards Self-Reliance and Global Reach
With rising production and expanding infrastructure, Bihar is positioning itself as:
- Self-reliant in milk and fish production
- Increasingly competitive in global dairy markets
Bottom line:
Sudha’s global expansion isn’t just about exports—it’s a strategy to link Bihar’s rural producers directly with international demand, turning local milk into global opportunity.
