Dairy Cooperative Provides Recovery Nutrition for Participants in Buffalo’s Marathon Hockey Fundraiser.
Buffalo, New York: UNC Dairy has partnered with the annual 11 Day Power Play by donating cases of its Chocolate Intense Milk to help support players participating in one of North America’s longest continuous hockey fundraising events.
The 11 Day Power Play, a unique 11-day hockey marathon held in Buffalo, raises funds for cancer-related causes across Western New York. As participants endure long hours on the ice, UNC Dairy’s Chocolate Intense Milk has been made available as a convenient recovery beverage designed to help athletes refuel between shifts.
The dairy-based sports recovery drink contains a combination of carbohydrates, electrolytes, and protein, nutrients widely recognized for their role in replenishing energy stores, supporting hydration, and aiding muscle recovery after physical activity.
Throughout the event, players enthusiastically embraced the locally produced beverage. Bottles of Chocolate Intense Milk became a common sight on team benches as participants used the product to recharge during breaks before returning to the ice for another shift.

“The 11 Day Power Play is an incredible event that brings our community together for a meaningful cause, and we’re proud to support the players throughout their journey on the ice,” said Madison Lindsay, Marketing Manager at UNC Dairy.
“After a long shift, recovery is essential, and our Chocolate Intense Milk provides the ideal combination of carbohydrates, electrolytes and protein to help athletes refuel and recover,” she added.
The partnership highlights the growing recognition of dairy-based beverages as effective recovery options for athletes participating in endurance sports and physically demanding activities.
Celebrating a Decade of Community Impact
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the 11 Day Power Play, which has become one of Western New York’s most impactful charitable sporting events.

Over the past nine years, the fundraiser has generated more than US$13 million to support cancer-related initiatives throughout the region. The funds have contributed to research and wellness programs at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, enabled more than 800 children with cancer to attend Camp Good Days, and helped fulfill over 400 wishes for local families through Make-A-Wish Western New York.
Dairy’s Growing Role in Sports Nutrition
The initiative also underscores the expanding role of dairy products in the sports nutrition sector. Chocolate milk has gained increasing recognition among athletes and sports nutrition experts as a cost-effective recovery beverage due to its natural balance of protein and carbohydrates.
