Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has solidified its position as India’s leading milk-producing state, registering a nearly 40% increase in milk output under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

According to official data, the state’s milk production has risen from 277 lakh metric tonnes in 2016–17 to over 388 lakh metric tonnes in 2024–25, marking an increase of more than 111 lakh metric tonnes. Uttar Pradesh now contributes 16% of India’s total milk production, the highest share among all states.
Outpacing Major Dairy States
With this growth, Uttar Pradesh has moved ahead of traditional dairy leaders such as Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. Collectively, the top five milk-producing states account for about 54% of national output, with Uttar Pradesh alone contributing a significant portion.
Policy Push and Infrastructure Expansion
Officials attribute this sharp rise to sustained government support, improved dairy infrastructure, and stronger supply chains. Mukesh Meshram noted that the growth reflects systematic planning and grassroots-level implementation, along with increased rural participation.
Women Driving the Dairy Revolution
A key driver of this transformation has been the involvement of rural women through the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission.

Dairy as a Tool for Rural Transformation
Officials подчеркнули that dairy expansion has significantly strengthened women’s economic participation, bringing them into the mainstream of rural income generation.
The state’s dairy growth story is now being seen as more than just an increase in production—it reflects a broader shift toward inclusive rural development, stronger supply chains, and women-led economic empowerment.
With sustained policy momentum, Uttar Pradesh is not just producing more milk—it is reshaping the rural economy around it.
