Verka Posts 14.79% Growth in June, Clocks ₹551 Crore Turnover as Punjab’s Cooperative Dairy Sector Gains Momentum

Chandigarh : Verka, the flagship dairy brand of Milkfed Punjab, has reported a turnover of ₹551 crore in June 2026, registering a 14.79% year-on-year growth over ₹480 crore recorded in June 2025. The strong performance reflects sustained growth in milk procurement, expanding demand for value-added dairy products, and continued investments in Punjab’s cooperative dairy sector.

Verka Posts 14.79% Growth in June, Clocks ₹551 Crore Turnover as Punjab’s Cooperative Dairy Sector Gains Momentum

According to the Punjab Government, the brand added ₹71 crore in turnover during the month, supported by higher milk procurement, processing capacity expansion, and improved market execution.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann described the performance as a significant milestone for Punjab’s dairy cooperative movement. He said the growth demonstrates increasing consumer confidence in the Verka brand while reinforcing the government’s commitment to strengthening cooperative institutions and improving dairy farmers’ incomes.

Milk procurement also witnessed notable growth, increasing by nearly two lakh litres per day during June, representing around 11% growth compared to the same period last year. The state government noted that this procurement growth is almost double the estimated national average of 5–6%, highlighting the expanding role of cooperative dairying in Punjab.

Value-Added Dairy Products Drive Growth

Verka’s value-added product portfolio delivered robust growth across multiple categories, indicating changing consumer preferences toward premium and convenience dairy products.

  • Table Butter: 94% growth
  • UHT Cream: 213% growth
  • UHT Milk: 20% growth
  • Ice Cream: 22% growth
  • Tetra Pack Lassi: 30% growth
  • Ghee: 41% growth
  • Dairy Whitener: 58% growth

The impressive performance across these categories underscores the increasing contribution of value-added products to Milkfed Punjab’s overall revenue, reducing dependence on conventional liquid milk sales and improving profitability.

Strategic Focus on Infrastructure and Market Expansion

The Chief Minister attributed the growth to a stronger product mix, better market execution, and rising consumer demand for Verka’s premium dairy offerings. He reiterated that the Punjab Government will continue investing in dairy infrastructure, modern processing facilities, technology adoption, cold-chain expansion, product innovation, and market development to enhance the competitiveness of Milkfed.

He also congratulated Milkfed’s management, employees, cooperative societies, and lakhs of dairy farmers whose collective efforts contributed to the organisation’s record monthly performance.

Industry Perspective

From an industry standpoint, Verka’s June performance reflects a broader transformation within India’s cooperative dairy sector. While higher milk procurement strengthens the supply chain, sustained growth in value-added products such as UHT milk, butter, cream, ghee, and dairy whitener indicates successful diversification into higher-margin segments.

The cooperative’s emphasis on infrastructure modernization, product innovation, and market expansion aligns with emerging trends in the Indian dairy industry, where branded value-added products are becoming major drivers of revenue growth. Continued investment in processing capacity and cold-chain infrastructure will be critical for maintaining growth momentum while ensuring better returns for dairy farmers and wider consumer access to quality dairy products.

With strong procurement growth, expanding product categories, and supportive government initiatives, Verka appears well-positioned to further strengthen its presence in India’s competitive dairy market while reinforcing the cooperative model as an engine of rural economic development.
