Padmapur, Dec 9: What began with a single cow in 2008 has grown into one of Bubuda village’s most successful dairy enterprises, thanks to the determination and innovation of farmer Vidyadhar Budek.
Starting small, Vidyadhar steadily expanded his herd and today manages 40 cows and calves, producing about 150 liters of milk daily. His family—wife, son, and daughter-in-law—works alongside him, and the growing workload has created employment for five villagers, who assist with grazing, feeding, cleaning, and other daily operations.
Over the years, Vidyadhar has built a reputation for supplying high-quality milk and dairy products, including curd, paneer, and khoya. He sells these products to local hotels and households in Padmapur, earning ₹50 per liter of milk, ₹350 per kg of paneer, and ₹400 per kg of khoya, ensuring a stable income.

A key part of his success is his investment in modern equipment—machines for grass cutting and dairy processing—which has boosted efficiency and improved product consistency. He also cultivates green fodder on five acres of land, providing his herd with a reliable supply of fresh feed.
Vidyadhar’s well-maintained sheds, good lighting, and consistent care have contributed to higher productivity and healthier cattle, strengthening his business even further.
From a single cow to a community-supported enterprise, Vidyadhar Budek’s journey shows how small-scale dairy farming, when combined with dedication and modern methods, can transform the livelihood of a family and create opportunities across an entire village.
