Hyderabad, June 22: In a major initiative aimed at improving student nutrition while strengthening the state’s dairy sector, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has announced that the government will supply Vijaya Dairy milk to nearly 27 lakh students studying in schools across the state.

The decision was revealed during a high-level review meeting held on Saturday to assess milk production, procurement, consumption, and pending payments to dairy farmers.
During the meeting, Vikramarka directed officials to prepare a comprehensive database on Telangana’s milk production capacity. He instructed them to conduct field surveys to determine the actual number of milk-producing animals and submit a detailed report at the next review meeting.
Emphasising the government’s commitment to supporting dairy farmers, the Deputy Chief Minister said efforts are underway to strengthen Vijaya Dairy and ensure sustainable growth of the sector. He called for a transparent policy on milk procurement prices and stressed that farmers’ bills must be cleared promptly without delays.
“Farmers who depend on dairy farming for their livelihood should receive payments on time. Timely payments will improve their financial stability and encourage them to continue supplying milk to dairies with confidence,” Vikramarka said.

To prevent delays in payments, he directed welfare departments to make direct payments to agencies supplying milk to schools. The move is expected to streamline transactions and eliminate outstanding dues to farmers.
Highlighting the importance of dairy farming in rural Telangana, the Deputy Chief Minister noted that a significant section of the rural population relies on the sector for income. He also urged officials to adopt modern technologies and best practices to enhance profitability and create additional livelihood opportunities for farmers.
The government’s decision to provide Vijaya Dairy milk to schoolchildren is expected to boost nutritional support for students while simultaneously expanding market opportunities for local dairy producers and strengthening the state’s cooperative dairy network.
