The department’s actions form part of its wider effort to strengthen compliance with food safety standards and prevent the sale of unsafe food products during the festive period.
Focus on supplier verification and traceability
Alongside inspections and sampling, the Food Safety Department conducted awareness meetings with sweet shop owners, dairy product vendors and representatives of dairy associations.
During these meetings, food business operators were advised to exercise particular caution while procuring paneer, khoya and other dairy products, especially from suppliers located outside Punjab.
Dr Kaur emphasised the importance of purchasing products from reliable sources and maintaining proper bills, invoices and supplier records to establish traceability and support quality verification.
Inspections to continue across the district
The District Health Officer said the Food Safety Team would continue conducting inspections, surveillance and sampling activities throughout Patiala.
Food business operators have been urged to comply with statutory requirements, maintain hygienic operating conditions and ensure that only safe and quality food products reach consumers.
The enforcement drive highlights the importance of supplier verification, documentation and laboratory testing in monitoring dairy supply chains, particularly when demand for paneer, khoya, ghee and sweets increases during festive periods.
