BENGALURU: In a major crackdown on food adulteration, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) and the KMF Vigilance Wing have dismantled a large-scale adulterated ghee network operating between Tamil Nadu and Bengaluru. The joint operation has resulted in the arrest of four individuals, including a KMF distributor and his son, and the seizure of 8,136 litres of fake Nandini-branded ghee valued at ₹1.26 crore.
Authorities revealed that the racket was producing three litres of adulterated ghee from just one litre of genuine Nandini ghee, using coconut oil and palm oil as primary adulterants. The counterfeit product was then packed into fake Nandini sachets and plastic bottles and distributed across Bengaluru at full market price.
Well-Organised Supply Chain Involved KMF License Holders
Investigations show that the adulterated ghee was supplied to a Bengaluru-based dealer holding legitimate KMF licences. The dealer and his family distributed the fake ghee to wholesale stores, retail outlets, and Nandini parlours, making the operation appear authentic.

KMF Managing Director B. Shivaswamy confirmed that one of the arrested individuals is an authorised KMF dealer.
Accused and Operations Uncovered
Those arrested include:
- Mahendra – KMF distributor
- Deepak – his son
- Muniraju – transporter bringing adulterated ghee from Tamil Nadu
- Abhi Arasu – driver of the goods vehicle
The joint CCB–KMF team raided godowns, shops, and transport vehicles belonging to Krishna Enterprises in Nanjamba Agrahara, Chamarajpet, owned by the accused.
During the operation, authorities seized:
- 8,136 litres of adulterated ghee
- Fake Nandini packaging materials (sachets and bottles)
- Large quantities of coconut and palm oil
- Four goods vehicles worth ₹60 lakh
- ₹1.19 lakh cash
- Five mobile phones
- Filling and mixing machinery used for adulteration
A vehicle transporting adulterated ghee from Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, was intercepted along with its driver.
Racket Active for Over Two Years
Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh confirmed that the racket had been active for nearly two years.
“We received specific inputs from the KMF Vigilance Wing. The adulteration unit was traced to Tiruppur district in Tamil Nadu. We are gathering more information on the main accused,” he stated.
