Dudhsagar Dairy has announced a major increase in milk procurement prices in a move expected to significantly benefit livestock farmers across the region.

The decision was taken by dairy chairman Ashok Chaudhary along with the board of directors in the interest of milk producers.
Under the revised structure:
- Milk procurement price has been increased by Rs 25 per kilogram of fat
- Procurement rate has risen from Rs 830 to Rs 855 per kg fat
The announcement has been welcomed by dairy farmers and cattle rearers across Gujarat.
First Dairy in Gujarat to Pay Based on SNF Along With Fat
The most significant feature of the new policy is that Dudhsagar Dairy has reportedly become the first dairy cooperative in Gujarat to provide additional payment to livestock farmers based not only on:
- Fat content
but also on: - SNF (Solids-Not-Fat) content
Until now, most dairy cooperatives in Gujarat primarily determined milk payments based on fat percentage alone.
With the inclusion of SNF-linked incentives, dairy officials believe farmers producing higher-quality milk will receive better returns.
Expected Annual Benefit of Over Rs 100 Crore
According to dairy sources, the revised payment model is expected to provide:
- More than Rs 100 crore in additional annual financial benefit to milk producers
The move is likely to:
- Increase farmer income
- Encourage better milk quality
- Promote balanced cattle nutrition
- Strengthen cooperative participation
The announcement has reportedly created a positive response among livestock farmers associated with the cooperative network.
Focus on Milk Quality and Farmer Welfare
Industry experts note that introducing SNF-based incentives could encourage producers to focus more on:
- Animal nutrition
- Feed quality
- Milk solids improvement
- Scientific dairy management
SNF is considered an important parameter in milk quality assessment as it includes:
- Proteins
- Lactose
- Minerals
- Other milk solids excluding fat
Higher SNF levels generally indicate better-quality milk and improved nutritional value.
Dairy Cooperatives Increasing Support Amid Rising Costs
The decision comes at a time when dairy farmers across India are facing rising expenses related to:
- Fodder
- Cattle feed
- Veterinary care
- Transportation
- Labour
Several major dairy cooperatives have recently revised procurement prices upward to support milk producers amid increasing operational costs.

Strengthening Gujarat’s Cooperative Dairy Sector
Dudhsagar Dairy is one of Gujarat’s major cooperative dairies and plays a key role in rural dairy livelihoods.
Industry observers say the new pricing model could:
- Improve milk quality standards
- Increase rural cash flow
- Encourage scientific dairy farming
- Set a benchmark for other dairy cooperatives in the state
The move is also being seen as an important step toward strengthening farmer-centric procurement systems within India’s cooperative dairy sector.
