NDDB Lays Foundation for Major Dairy Infrastructure Projects in Andhra Pradesh

Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh: In a significant boost to women-led dairy development in India, Dr. Meenesh Shah, Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and NDDB Dairy Services (NDS), on Friday performed the ground-breaking ceremony and Bhoomi Pujan for a series of large-scale dairy infrastructure projects being undertaken by Shreeja Mahila Milk Producer Organisation (MPO) at Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh.

Joining him at the event were Smt. Sreedevi Siddareddygari, Chairperson of Shreeja Milk Producer Organization; Dr. C.P. Devanand, Managing Director, NDS; Dr. Raghu Hassan Mallegowda, Executive Director, NDS; and Shri Thimmappa Sura, Chief Executive Officer, Shreeja MPO.

The projects comprise:

  • A 4 lakh litres per day (LLPD) Mega Dairy Plant
  • A 30 metric tonnes per day (MTPD) Skimmed Milk Powder (SMP) Plant
  • A 200 tonnes per day (TPD) Cattle Feed Plant, expandable to 400 TPD

The Mega Dairy Plant and SMP facility are being established under the National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD) with support from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India.

Once operational, the integrated dairy complex will include facilities for liquid milk processing and packaging, fermented milk products, white butter, and ghee production, significantly enhancing Shreeja MPO’s value-added dairy capabilities.

The cattle feed plant is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening the dairy value chain by ensuring a consistent supply of quality feed to producer members. Officials noted that improved feed availability is directly linked to better animal productivity, lower input costs, and more sustainable dairy farming practices.

Speaking on the occasion, NDDB officials highlighted that the projects align with the broader objective of empowering women dairy farmers through farmer-owned institutions, infrastructure development, and market access.

Shreeja Mahila Milk Producer Organisation, one of India’s prominent women-led dairy collectives, is expected to benefit substantially from the investments, which will expand its milk processing, value addition, and feed manufacturing capacities.

Industry experts believe the new facilities will generate greater market opportunities for member producers while contributing to rural economic development in Andhra Pradesh. The expansion is also expected to strengthen the region’s dairy ecosystem by creating employment opportunities and enhancing income stability for thousands of women engaged in dairying.

“The establishment of a modern dairy complex at Kuppam marks an important milestone in the evolution of women-led dairy enterprises in India,” a senior dairy sector official said. “By integrating milk processing, value addition, and cattle nutrition, the project adopts a holistic approach to sustainable dairy development.”

With India’s dairy sector increasingly focusing on value-added products and supply chain modernization, the Shreeja MPO project represents another step toward building resilient, farmer-owned dairy institutions capable of competing in an evolving marketplace.

The initiative underscores NDDB’s continued commitment to strengthening producer organizations and advancing inclusive growth in the country’s dairy sector, particularly among women farmers who form the backbone of rural milk production.
