To enhance milk and dairy product production and strengthen farmers’ economic conditions, the Maharashtra government has constituted a State-level Dairy Business Study Committee.

Dairy Development Minister Atul Save said the committee aims to suggest long-term measures to increase milk output in low-production regions and address the challenges faced by farmers in coordination with cooperative and private milk unions.
The committee will be chaired by the Commissioner of Animal Husbandry, with the Commissioner of Dairy Development serving as Member Secretary. It will review the overall situation of the state’s dairy sector and propose measures based on feedback from milk-producing farmers, private and cooperative milk unions.

Aligned with the vision of “Developed Maharashtra 2047,” the committee will study successful schemes from across India and recommend best practices for implementation in the state. Experts in animal husbandry and dairy business, representatives from the dairy industry, and progressive farmers will also be invited as needed.
Minister Save emphasized that the committee will also focus on creating employment opportunities for women in the dairy sector. By promoting self-help groups and farmer producer groups, women will be economically empowered, thereby improving their financial conditions.
