State-run Banglar Dairy has increased the price of its milk by ₹4 per litre, effective this month.

Under the new rates:
- “Supreme” milk: ₹60/litre (up from ₹56)
- “Tripti” milk: ₹54/litre (up from ₹52)
- “Swasthya Sathi Double Toned” milk: ₹48/litre (up from ₹46)
Prices of other dairy products such as ghee, paneer, and curd remain unchanged.
According to Swapan Debnath, State Animal Resources Development (ARD) Minister, the price hike was necessary due to fodder shortages and higher input costs caused by heavy rainfall this year. He said the revision was done on a “no profit, no loss” basis to support milk producers and maintain economic stability.
Despite the hike, Banglar Dairy milk remains cheaper than private brands. A 500-ml pack costs ₹30, compared to ₹32 for Amul, ITC, or Thacker Dairy.
Officials noted that Bengal’s milk production continues to grow at 9.76% annually, but rising costs of fodder and transportation have strained operations. The fodder shortage, worsened by excessive rains, has pushed up production costs across the sector.
Market experts said other dairy companies like Amul and Metro have also raised prices recently. If fodder scarcity and input costs persist, another price hike could follow during winter.
Launched in November 2021, Banglar Dairy is the West Bengal government’s own dairy brand, created to unify milk processing under one label after the earlier Mother Dairy, Calcutta project.
