Madhya Pradesh : Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah criticised the Congress over its record on dairy development and support for livestock farmers, while highlighting the growth in India’s milk production and the Centre’s plans to expand the cooperative dairy network.

Addressing dairy farmers from central and northern Madhya Pradesh at the BHEL Dussehra Ground in Bhopal, Shah said India continues to be the world’s largest milk-producing country and credited recent government initiatives with strengthening the dairy sector.
Shah Highlights Milk Production Growth
According to figures cited by Shah, India’s milk production increased from 14.60 crore tonnes in 2014–15 to 25 crore tonnes in 2024–25.
He also said per-capita milk availability increased by 58% to 485 grams per day during the same period.
Shah presented the figures as an indicator of the performance of governments in supporting the dairy sector and improving milk availability.
He also noted that Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra are India’s leading milk-producing states, and said all five are currently governed by the BJP.
Political Criticism of Congress
Shah accused successive Congress-led governments of giving inadequate attention to livestock farmers and dairy development.
He alleged that the Congress had focused more on political rallies and protests than on measures aimed at improving the economic position of livestock farmers.

Shah contrasted the Congress’ record during its years in government with the initiatives undertaken by the BJP-led government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the past decade.
The remarks formed a central part of his political criticism of the Congress at the Bhopal dairy-farmer gathering.
White Revolution 2.0 to Expand Cooperative Network
Shah also highlighted the Centre’s White Revolution 2.0 initiative, which aims to expand India’s cooperative dairy infrastructure and increase farmer participation in organised milk procurement.
He said the programme would support the establishment of 75,000 new village-level dairy cooperative societies and the strengthening of around 46,000 existing cooperatives.
The initiative is intended to expand milk procurement infrastructure, improve farmers’ access to organised markets and strengthen the cooperative dairy network.
Madhya Pradesh in Focus
Shah said the Centre would work with the Madhya Pradesh Government to increase milk production and expand milk collection infrastructure in the state.
For Madhya Pradesh’s dairy sector, the proposed expansion of cooperative networks could improve access to organised milk procurement while creating additional infrastructure for processing and marketing dairy products.
Shah’s Bhopal address therefore combined a political assessment of the Congress’ record with the Centre’s broader policy agenda for expanding India’s cooperative dairy economy and strengthening the country’s milk-production ecosystem.
