Erode, Tamil Nadu: Milky Mist Dairy Food has raised approximately ₹465.29 crore from 19 anchor investors ahead of its initial public offering (IPO), strengthening the dairy company’s position as it prepares to tap the public markets.

The company allotted 3.32 crore equity shares to anchor investors at ₹140 per share, the upper end of its IPO price band. The allocation includes a share premium of ₹138 per share.

Strong institutional participation

Domestic mutual funds accounted for a significant portion of the anchor allocation. Around 1.57 crore shares were allotted to nine domestic mutual fund houses through 13 schemes.

The anchor book also attracted prominent domestic and international investors, including Zulia Investments Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Temasek, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

Other participating investors included Nippon Mutual Fund, HDFC Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, 360 ONE, WhiteOak, Invesco Mutual Fund, Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund, Edelweiss Mutual Fund, HSBC Mutual Fund, Trust Mutual Fund and Union Small Cap Fund.

JM Financial, Axis Capital and IIFL Capital Services are the book-running lead managers for the issue.

IPO to support expansion and deleveraging

Milky Mist is seeking to use the IPO to capitalise on growing demand for value-added dairy products, while expanding manufacturing capacity and strengthening its balance sheet.

The company’s strategy focuses heavily on products such as paneer, cheese, yoghurt, curd, butter, ghee, ice cream and other packaged foods, rather than conventional liquid milk.

This business model gives Milky Mist a positioning closer to a dairy FMCG company, with greater emphasis on branded, processed and value-added products.

Direct farmer network and integrated operations

Founded in Erode, Tamil Nadu, Milky Mist has built an integrated operating model spanning milk procurement, manufacturing and distribution.

The company says it directly engages with more than 67,000 farmers, helping secure its raw-material supply. Its technology-driven manufacturing facilities and in-house logistics network are designed to provide greater control over production, distribution and product traceability.

Why the anchor investment matters

The ₹465-crore anchor allocation provides an early indication of institutional interest in India’s value-added dairy segment, which is increasingly attracting investment as consumer demand moves beyond basic milk products.

Milky Mist’s IPO also represents another important development in the evolution of India’s dairy industry—from predominantly milk-focused businesses towards branded cheese, paneer, yoghurt, ice cream, whey and other higher-value categories.

With the public issue, the company is looking to combine capacity expansion, debt reduction and deeper penetration of the dairy FMCG market as competition intensifies among India’s organised dairy players.
