India’s ice cream industry is witnessing a strong wave of innovation driven by nostalgia, regional flavours, and premium artisanal concepts, as brands experiment with unique formats and culturally rooted taste experiences.

From mango-shaped desserts and nimbu pani-inspired creations to premium A2 milk-based artisanal scoops, companies are blending traditional Indian flavours with modern presentation to capture younger consumers and premium urban markets.
Hocco Revives Viral ‘Aamchi’ with New Additions
Hocco has reintroduced its viral mango-shaped ice cream Aamchi following strong demand and a sell-out response during the previous summer season.
The Chona family-backed ice cream brand has now expanded the concept with two additional launches:
- Leemo — inspired by India’s traditional summer nimbu pani with a tangy lemon flavour profile
- Bun Maska Bix — inspired by classic Irani café bun maska combinations, featuring butter ice cream, jam, and sponge layers
The products are currently available through quick-commerce delivery platforms and are priced between ₹70 and ₹200 depending on the variant and format.
Industry observers note that Hocco’s strategy reflects the growing importance of visually distinctive and nostalgia-driven products in India’s premium dessert segment.

Vantara Enters Premium Artisanal Ice Cream Segment
Vantara Creamery has also entered the premium small-batch ice cream market with a collection of 17 flavours inspired by regional Indian tastes and nostalgic desserts.
The brand launched through a curated ice cream truck experience at Jio World Drive on May 9–10, with additional showcase events planned for May 16–17.
The artisanal lineup includes flavours such as:
- Malai Kulfi
- Guava Chilli
- Filter Coffee
- Lemon Sorbet
The company stated that the ice creams are prepared using A2 Gir cow milk, positioning the brand within the premium natural and artisanal dairy category.
Indian Ice Creams Gain Global Recognition
India’s growing influence in the global dessert market also received a boost after several Indian ice cream creations were featured in TasteAtlas’s list of the world’s 100 most iconic ice creams.
Five Indian favourites earned recognition:
- Death By Chocolate from Bengaluru
- Gadbad from Mangaluru
- Guava ice cream from Apsara in Mumbai
- Mango ice cream sandwich from K. Rustom & Co.
- Naturals tender coconut ice cream
The desserts ranked between 50th and 54th globally, highlighting the international appeal of India’s regional and heritage dessert culture.

Nostalgia Becomes a Major Market Driver
Industry analysts say the Indian ice cream market is increasingly being shaped by a combination of emotional nostalgia, premiumisation, and experiential branding.
Consumers are showing rising interest in products inspired by childhood flavours, street beverages, café culture, and traditional regional desserts — but presented through modern textures, packaging, and social-media-friendly formats.
At the same time, premium ingredients such as A2 milk, natural fruit inclusions, artisanal preparation methods, and small-batch production are becoming important differentiators in the organised dessert market.
Experts believe this fusion of heritage and innovation is positioning Indian ice cream brands not only as local favourites but also as globally competitive premium dessert concepts.
