Atlanta, USA: Coca-Cola is investigating a ransomware attack that has disrupted operations at its dairy subsidiary, Fairlife, forcing the temporary suspension of production at its U.S. manufacturing facilities.

The company disclosed the incident in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), stating that it is currently assessing the full scope of the cyberattack and its potential business impact. Coca-Cola has emphasised that the incident has not affected the quality or safety of Fairlife’s dairy products.
Fairlife is one of the fastest-growing dairy brands in North America and is known for its ultra-filtered, lactose-free milk, protein shakes, and nutritional beverages. The brand has recorded annual retail sales exceeding US$1 billion since 2022.
According to the company, production has been temporarily halted at Fairlife’s U.S. facilities as part of ongoing efforts to contain and investigate the cyber incident. However, Fairlife’s Canadian operations remain fully operational and have not been impacted.
Coca-Cola has notified law enforcement authorities and is working with cybersecurity experts and external advisers to restore affected systems and resume normal operations. The company has not disclosed the identity of the attackers, and no cybercriminal group has publicly claimed responsibility for the breach at the time of reporting.

Importantly, Coca-Cola stated that there is no evidence to suggest any compromise of product quality or food safety.
The cyberattack comes at a time when Fairlife is expanding its manufacturing footprint in the United States. In March, Coca-Cola announced an investment of approximately US$650 million to expand Fairlife’s production facilities in Coopersville, Michigan. Additionally, the company is preparing to commission a new 745,000-square-foot dairy processing facility in Webster, New York, which is expected to begin operations this year.
Coca-Cola acquired full ownership of Fairlife in 2020 after purchasing the remaining stake from Select Milk Producers, strengthening its position in the value-added dairy and functional beverage segments.
Rising Cybersecurity Risks for the Dairy and Food Industry
Industry experts note that the incident highlights the growing cybersecurity challenges facing the global food and agriculture sector. According to the Food and Agriculture Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Food and Ag-ISAC), approximately 205 cyberattacks have targeted food and agriculture businesses during 2026, accounting for nearly 5% of all reported cyber incidents across industries.
Cybercriminals are increasingly targeting manufacturing and supply chain operations through ransomware attacks, which can disrupt production, logistics, and business continuity. The food and dairy industry’s growing reliance on digital infrastructure and automated processing systems has made cybersecurity an increasingly important operational priority.
The Fairlife incident underscores the need for dairy processors and food manufacturers worldwide to strengthen cybersecurity preparedness alongside investments in production infrastructure and digital technologies.
As the investigation continues, Coca-Cola is working to restore operations while ensuring uninterrupted product safety and regulatory compliance across its dairy business.
