JKDFA Raises Milk Prices by ₹5 Per Litre Across Jammu & Kashmir

In a significant move aimed at supporting dairy farmers amid rising production costs, the Jammu and Kashmir Dairy Farmers Association has announced a ₹5 per litre increase in milk prices across Jammu and Kashmir, effective from June 1, 2026.

JKDFA Raises Milk Prices by ₹5 Per Litre Across Jammu & Kashmir

The decision was taken on the occasion of World Milk Day following a comprehensive review of escalating costs faced by dairy producers, including cattle feed, fodder, transportation, veterinary care, packaging materials, fuel, gas, and milk procurement expenses.

Rising Costs Prompt Price Revision

Speaking on behalf of the association, Sandeep Singh Chib said the price revision was necessary to ensure the economic viability of dairy farming and maintain a sustainable milk supply chain across the Union Territory.

“World Milk Day is an opportunity to recognize the invaluable contribution of dairy farmers and to address the challenges they face. The revised pricing is intended to strengthen the dairy value chain and support continued milk production,” Chib stated.

The association has also appealed to milk producers and vendors to implement a corresponding increase of ₹5 per litre or kilogram at the retail level so that the benefits of the revision directly reach dairy farmers.

Boost for Dairy Farmers

According to JKDFA, the revised milk rates are expected to provide relief to thousands of dairy farmers who have been facing increasing operational costs over the past year.

Industry observers note that feed and fodder prices, transportation charges, and animal healthcare expenses have risen considerably, placing pressure on farm profitability.

The association believes the price adjustment will help:

  • Improve farmer incomes.
  • Sustain milk production levels.
  • Strengthen the dairy value chain.
  • Encourage investment in dairy farming.
  • Ensure uninterrupted milk availability for consumers.

Food Safety Measures Welcomed

On the occasion, JKDFA also welcomed a recent prohibitory order issued by Smita Sethi regarding the storage and transportation of loose paneer consignments entering Jammu and Kashmir from neighboring states.

The order targets paneer transported and stored under unhygienic and non-refrigerated conditions, which can pose serious food safety risks.

Chib described the move as an important step toward improving dairy product quality and protecting consumer health.

Growing Focus on Dairy Sustainability

The announcement comes at a time when dairy organizations across India are emphasizing farmer welfare, sustainable milk production, and food safety. With input costs continuing to rise, dairy cooperatives and farmer associations are increasingly seeking pricing mechanisms that ensure fair returns to producers while maintaining stable supplies for consumers.

For Jammu and Kashmir’s dairy sector, the latest revision represents an effort to balance farmer profitability with the long-term sustainability of milk production in the region.

The price revision underscores the growing economic pressures on dairy farming and the need for policies that support both producers and consumers in an evolving dairy market.
