National Nutrition Week 2020 is celebrated from September 1 to 7. It aims to create awareness about good nutrition and health. National Nutrition Week 2020 is aimed at creating awareness about health and nutrition.
History of National Nutrition Week
National Nutrition Week was initiated by the members of the American Dietetic Association (now the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) to deliver the nutrition education message to the public while promoting the profession of dietetics in March 1973.
In the year 1982 National Nutrition week celebration was started by the Government in India. The campaign was started to aware and encourages the peoples as a society to understand the importance of nutrition and adopt a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

Why nutrition week is celebrated?
National Nutrition Week is an annual nutrition event organized by Food and Nutrition Board under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. The nutrition week highlights the importance and function of the right nutrition for the human body. A balanced diet with a composition of essential nutrients is pivotal for the smooth working and growth of human body. Initiatives have been taken by the government of India focusing on nutrition, good food, healthy body, mind, and lifestyle

What is the objective of National Nutrition Week?
National Nutrition Week is celebrated with an objective to aware the peoples about the importance of nutrition for their better health which has an impact on development, productivity, economic growth and ultimately national development. Nutrition is very important factor for the Human Body as well as many other living beings as due to it, everyone can continuously their work properly and accurately.
There are many people in India who are Malnourished and require a proper diet for their better Body Growth. The government of India has made many of the Seminars and also Camps to provide the proper Education to every Child and Citizen of the Country. Every Child in India should grow better without having any Nutritional problems.
It’s tough to maintain the Body when people work more than their Limits. It is necessary to take better diet than to eat Junk foods which are made up of outside the House to keep the Body maintain and also to grow better.
Today, peoples are very curious to make their body grow to work better and more in their Companies/firms. They used to eat many of the Powders as well as Healthy Diet to get all the Important Nutrition for their better health. So it’s quite important for people to create a better attitude towards the human health. It is very necessary for people to get each and every important nutrition to their Body to work quickly and properly.
Government of India’s Plans to make India healthy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji launched POSHAN abhiyan with the vision to make India malnutrition free by 2022 on March 8th, 2018. The objective of POSHAN Abhiyan is to reduce injure in identified districts with the highest malnutrition burden by roping in anganwadi workers. The September month is dedicated for celebration of ‘Poshan Maah’ or nutrition month. Prime Minister Modi in his address of Mann ki Baat said that the month of September will be observed as Poshan Maah that is Nutrition month. He focused that nation and nutrition are very closely interrelated to each other. He recalled “Yatha Annam Tatha Mannam.” means mental and intellectual health development is directly related to the quality of our food uptake. PM Modi also highlighted that nutrition and proper nourishment play a crucial role in helping children and students to attain their optimum potential. Therefore, it is necessary that children be well-nourished and the mother needs to take proper nourishment.
National Nutrition Week themes
The theme of National Nutrition Week 2020 was ‘Eat Right, Bite by Bite’.
The theme of 2019 was ‘Har Ghar Poshan Vyavahar’.
The theme of National Nutrition Week 2018 was ‘Go Further with Food’ whereas in 2017, the theme was ‘Optimal Infant & Young Child Feeding Practices: Better Child Health’.
Importance of Nutrition
Human body requires seven major types of nutrients. All the nutrients don’t provide energy but still are important like water and fiber. Micronutrients are also important but are required in smaller quantity. The essential organic compounds are vitamins that the body cannot synthesize. Good Nutrition is necessary because

- Delay the effect of Ageing.
- Reduce the risks of chronic diseases.

What is Malnutrition?
Malnutrition is a physical state of unbalanced nutrition level. It may be due to the under nutrition or over nutrition. Under nutrition may be caused due to the lack of calories, proteins or other nutrients. While over nutrition is eating too much calories. When someone takes more calories than their body require, leads to the malnutrition condition. Malnutrition in children can lead to stunted growth, delay in development and more sickness due to poor immune system.
Therefore, we can say that a balanced diet plays an important role in our daily life to be a healthy person and for that proper knowledge about the nutrition is very important. So to make people aware of healthy life and uptake of proper diet National Nutrition Week is celebrated from 1 to 7th September each and every year.
