New Delhi | April 2026 — The government has assured that milk supply and prices of dairy products remain stable across India, despite ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

At an inter-ministerial briefing, Puja Rustagi, Director in the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, confirmed that there has been no disruption in procurement, processing, or distribution of milk nationwide.
No Supply Disruption Across Dairy Value Chain
Officials stated:
- Milk procurement and supply remain uninterrupted
- Prices of milk and dairy products are stable
- Payments to dairy farmers are being made on time
India, the world’s largest milk producer, recorded 247.87 million tonnes of milk production in 2024–25.
Fuel and Packaging Supply Secured
Addressing concerns over supply chain disruptions, the government clarified:
- No shortages of fuel, LPG, or plastic packaging materials
- Stable availability of polypropylene and polystyrene, key inputs for packaging
To ensure continuity, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has mandated that:
- Critical industries, including dairy plants, will receive 70% of their pre-March 2026 LPG supply
Shift Towards Piped Natural Gas
The dairy sector has been advised to:
- Gradually transition from LPG to piped natural gas (PNG)
- Reduce dependence on volatile fuel supplies
This move is aimed at improving long-term energy security and cost stability.

Real-Time Monitoring and Coordination
The government has implemented multiple proactive measures:
- Regular meetings with state milk federations and unions
- Launch of a dedicated monitoring portal (March 30, 2026)
- Continuous coordination with packaging suppliers
These steps ensure real-time tracking of:
- Milk availability
- Fuel supply
- Packaging materials
Export Facilitation Measures
To support exporters, the government has:
- Simplified animal quarantine clearance procedures (notified March 25, 2026)
- Enabled smoother handling of returned export consignments
Stability Amid Global Uncertainty
Despite global disruptions, India’s dairy sector has demonstrated strong resilience, supported by:
- Robust domestic production
- Effective government coordination
- Stable supply chains
Bottom Line
Even as global tensions shake energy markets, India’s dairy system is holding steady—no shortages, no price shock (for now). That’s not luck; it’s a well-oiled cooperative + policy machine doing its job.
